**What is the NFP (non-farm payroll) & how does it impact the crypto markets?**

The U.S. non-farm payroll report is key data indicating the strength of the U.S. economy. We tend to see markets respond to the release of this data with subsequent huge moves; so for this reason, understanding how the NFP impacts the global and crypto markets is a great skill for traders and investors alike!

Cryptocurrencies are also considered a commodity/safe haven and although traders do not usually trade the NFP like the forex traders, the NFP does have an eventual impact on the value of Bitcoin! **Bitcoin Sees Weakness at $29K as Traders Assess Fed Minutes**

In European trading hours on Thursday, Bitcoin (BTC) briefly fell below, then returned above, the $29,000 support level, setting the tone for other major cryptocurrencies, according to statistics. The price drop came after the market's good reaction to the minutes of the US Federal Reserve meeting held on May 3-4, which were released on Wednesday.

**ETH 2.0 could happen in August**

Preston Van Loon, an Ethereum core developer, told a panel at the Permissionless conference that work is ongoing to complete the Merge within the next three months. Van Loon stated that efforts are being made to finalize the Merge before the next difficulty bomb goes off, stating that the Merge is nearly done, and the team is currently testing. During the conference, Justin Drake, another Ethereum researcher, voiced his "strong desire to make this happen before the difficulty bomb in August." Drake claimed that ensuring the Merge occurred as soon as possible was a top priority.

**How will Bitcoin survive the tightening by the Fed?**

The price of bitcoin has dropped by about 40% from its peak of nearly $70,000 per Bitcoin late last year, while the price of Ethereum has dropped by nearly half. Now, after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell hinted at a half-point rate hike at next week's meeting, the market expects the central bank to start decreasing its massive $9 trillion asset portfolio as it tackles growing inflation.

**Yuga Labs (ApeCoin founders) to move away from Ethereum**

Yuga Labs issued a statement following one of the largest minting events in the NFT and Metaverse industries, which triggered a major surge in transaction fees on the Ethereum network. According to the statement, Yuga will have to relocate its projects to a separate chain at some point because Ethereum was clearly unable to handle the enormous purchase volume. Users who did not participate in the mint had to postpone all of their transactions because they did not pay regular gas prices.
