The Conference Board (CB) Consumer Confidence data report 📋 measures the level of consumer confidence in the economy. It is a leading indicator as it often predicts consumer spending 🛍️, which plays a major role in the overall economy. Higher readings point to higher consumer optimism and adversely, lower figures show increased consumer pessimism.

If we are to see a lower reading 🔻 as expected, this will build further bearish sentiment for the US economy, which leads to the assumption that traders and investors will fare less towards riskier assets and hold towards safety.

⚠️ This data is the most awaited for this week as everyone is awaiting confirmation on the next interest rate hike. Will it be a 0.75% increase as expected or could we see a higher 1% interest rate hike? ## Advance Gross Domestic Product (GDP) report q/q

**Why Our Traders Care:**
There are three versions of the GDP report that is released a month apart. The ‘advance’, ‘preliminary’, and ‘final’ GDP. This is the ‘advance’ release, and it is the most important of the three, and tends to have the most impact in the markets for this reason! The GDP report measures the yearly change in the inflation-adjusted value of all goods and services produced by the economy. If we see the actual figure upon release be greater ⤴️ than the predicted number, then that would produce positive sentiment for the currency.

## Core Personal Consumption Expenditure (PCE) Price Index m/m

**Why Our Traders Care:**
The PCE (otherwise known as the CPI consumer price index) measures the change in the price of goods and services (excluding food and energy). But this report differs from Core CPI as it only measures goods and services consumed by individuals. The CPI comes out about 10 days before this report and takes most of the attention, but this is still a fairly important report to keep track of as it is the Fed’s primary inflation measure.

A higher ⤴️ than expected reading to what is predicted tends to be positive/bullish for the USD, while a lower than predicted reading is usually negative/bearish for the USD. So traders tend to keep their eyes to see how volatile the market at that time could be.

## The US Building Permits and Housing Starts Data

The building permits data 🏗️ shows the annualised number of new residential building permits issued for the previous month and is a great gauge of future construction activity because getting a permit is one of the first steps in constructing a new building. The housing starts data 📋 shows the annualised number of new residential buildings that began construction in the previous month and is correlated to the building permits as of course, a permit must be issued before a house is constructed. 

This data 📋 is a leading indicator of economic health because building construction produces a wide-reaching 🌊 ripple effect. For example, jobs are created for the construction workers, subcontractors and inspectors are hired, and various construction services are purchased by the builder; Hence why the economy looks for higher numbers every month. 

Economic indicators are some of the most valuable tools investors can have in their arsenal. Trading using economic indicators can potentially help investors take advantage of past events, trends and predictions about the future of financial markets. The CPI indicates the change in the price of goods and services purchased by consumers and is considered the 💂 UK's most important inflation data because it's used as the central bank's inflation target. Consumer prices account for a majority of overall inflation. 

❗ Inflation is important to currency valuation because rising prices lead the central bank to raise interest rates. Actual figures that are greater than the predicted figures are good for the currency. However, here, traders can look at this from the point of view of; if someone is struggling to pay for goods and services due to increasing prices, how much of their income will they actually invest in ‘riskier’ assets? 🤔

## US Existing Home Sales

The existing home sales 🏘️ measures the annualised number of residential buildings that were sold during the previous month (excluding new construction). Please note, whilst it is released as monthly data, it is reported in annualised format (giving a monthly figure x12).

This data is a leading indicator 💬 of economic health for the US because the sale of a home triggers a wide-reaching ripple effect. Eg: renovations are done by the new owners, a mortgage is sold by the financing bank, and brokers are paid to execute the transaction etc.

This is another piece of data investors and traders are particularly interested in as they can gauge the strength of the country's economy. This is the primary tool the ECB 🏛️ uses to communicate with investors about its monetary policy as it contains their decision on interest rates and comments about the economic conditions that influenced their decision. Most importantly, it discusses the economic outlook and offers clues on the outcome of future decisions which is what traders 🕵 focus on.

Flash services PMI is an early estimate of the Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), designed to provide an accurate advanced indication of the final services PMI data.

This data is basically a leading indicator 🥇 of economic health as businesses react quickly to market conditions, and their purchasing managers hold the most current and relevant insight into the company's view of the economy. If we see an actual figure above ⤴️ the predicted, this is good for the US Dollar. Of course, as we have seen as of late, as the dollar index goes up, crypto tends to go in the opposite direction, so traders keep a keen eye out for this report. 👀

Australia, Japan, France, Germany, the UK, and the EU’s PMIs are also released on this day.

## Pending Home Sales m/m

This report ties in with the above Durable Goods Orders and crypto traders especially are looking for that weakness in the DXY/USD!

A higher than predicted reading, which will most likely be the case here, will be 🟢 positive/bullish for the USD.

## US Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Price Index q/q

- **Date & Time:** Wednesday 29th June, 3.30pm GMT+3

**Why Our Traders Care:**
The GDP Price Index measures the annualised change ↕️ in the price of all goods and services. It is the broadest inflationary indicator, but the primary gauge of the economy’s health 💲🌡️.

We have had higher than predicted for most quarters since last year however, last quarter was for the first time ever so slightly lower than predicted! If we can see the same again, this will be more positive for crypto traders 📈 as it could indicate a broader weakening of the USD.

## Core PCE Price Index m/m

The Core Personal Consumption Expenditure (PCE) Price Index measures the changes in the price of goods 🏷️💲 and services purchased by consumers for the purpose of consumption, (excluding food and energy) which is where it differs from Consumer Price Index (CPI). This index is a key way to measure changes in purchasing trends and inflation. 
 
This is the Federal Reserve's primary 🥇 inflation measure. Inflation is important to currency valuation because rising prices lead the central bank to raise interest rates out of respect for their inflation containment mandate; A higher than predicted reading here should be taken as positive/bullish for the USD.

## European Central Bank President Lagarde Speaks

**Why Our Traders Care:**
The 🏦 European Central Bank’s President, Christine Lagarde is set to speak. As head of the ECB which controls short term interest rates, she has more influence over the euro's value than any other person. Traders watch her speeches closely 👀 as they are often used to drop subtle hints regarding future monetary policy and interest rate shifts. Her comments tend to determine a short-term positive or negative trend. 
ECB President Lagarde is to testify in front of the European Parliament in Brussels on Monday and likely to be closely questioned about progress on the bank’s new crisis-fighting tool since its announcement last week. Some analysts and traders think the new tool may allow the central bank scope to implement more aggressive rate hikes if needed so a close eye on how this will affect the dollar and therefore crypto will be set.

## Existing Home Sales Report

This report is a leading indicator of economic health because the sale of a 🏠 home triggers a wide-reaching ripple effect. For example, renovations are done by the new owners, a mortgage is sold by the financing bank, and brokers are paid to execute the transaction. 

The results of this report is expected to show that the sales of existing homes will have slowed down 🐢 in comparison to previous months. This is partly due to the mortgage rates continuing to rise which will potentially lead to a greater lack of affordability, and ultimately a lack of investing in the financial markets.

## Consumer Price Index (year on year) UK

**Why Our Traders Care:**
This is considered the UK’s most important inflation data because it is used as the central bank's inflation target. Consumer prices account for a majority of overall inflation which is important to currency valuation because rising prices lead the central bank to raise interest rates. The Bank of England warns that as the cap on gas prices increases in October, headline CPI could reach 11%. After rebounding in April, the British consumer is being forced to slow down. This is important data to traders 🤓, especially in forex trading, as volatility will be evident on the release of the reports.

## Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell Speaks

- **Date & Time:** Wednesday 22nd June, 4.30pm GMT+3

**Why Our Traders Care:**
Just as the speech from the President of the ECB 🏦 on the previous Wednesday, Powell, Head of the US Central Bank, which also controls short-term interest rates in the states, has more influence over the nation's currency value than any other person. Traders here will also scrutinise his public engagements as they are often used to drop subtle clues regarding future monetary policy, which can be traded on his remarks.  

Last Wednesday, the Fed hiked rates by 75 basis points and flagged a faster pace of future rate hikes 🤯. Powell said the Fed cannot control all the factors that contribute to higher inflation, like the war in Ukraine which has pushed up energy prices. Market participants fear that the Fed’s aggressive rate hike path risks pushing the economy into recession and with signs of slowing growth and U.S. stocks now in bear market territory, Powell may be pressed for more details on how the Fed can curb inflation without causing too many disturbances in the economy and markets.
